    • Doghouse Initiative

The YHS has embarked on an exciting new initiative to build doghouses for community members who are in need. We are working in partnership with the Yancey County Sheriff's Office and they are providing the inmate labor and the YHS is providing the supplies.  The inmates have built small, medium and large doghouses and they are sturdy and well built! It costs approximately $55.00 to build a medium sized dog house. We would like to keep this program going and are requesting donations to build future doghouses. If you'd like to help out, go to our Donate button and choose Doghouses on the drop down menu.  Thank you for your support!

We are growing!  The Barkin' Basement resale store was started a few years ago to help fund the shelter and has been run solely by volunteers.  We have grown to the point that we need a manager to run the store and to recruit and supervise new volunteers.  This will be a full time job.  If you are interested in this position, pick up an application at the Yancey Humane Society or at the Barkin' Basement store located in the Burnsville Plaza next to Fred's.  For additional information, you can call 828-208-9510.
